In between General Conference, Stephen and I were invited over to a friends house who lives close by the church. Being one who never turns down a home-cooked meal (especially when it is home-cooked by someone else....) we went over for some fabulous soup and APPLE PIE! Oh, so good.
It ended up being me, Stephen, my BIL, and 3 other guys sitting around a table. Don't ask me HOW the conversation ended up being about what we were going to name our child, but it did. For. an. HOUR.
The whole pregnancy, I've had my BIL offer sweet name suggestions (if you know him, you prob know how 'great' these names were) and I've even had some recommendations from his friends, such as Anna Conda Jennings. Yes, I said Annaconda.
We had about an hour of some great suggestions, and because I love you all soo much, I will now share those GEMS with you!
Once we assured them that we had a first name picked out, and that it was really just the middle name that was up to determination, they went crazy with middle name options.
Let me explain.
My middle name is Grace. For as long as I can remember, I've wanted a little girl name Grace (in my mind, she's always had read hair, but I guess time will tell on that part). When we found out we were having a little girl, the name Grace just sort of stuck. I was pretty adamant at first that I didn't want to name the baby before she was born, but Stephen and I just felt like Grace was her name. (Luckily, Stephen was a big fan of Grace too...)
So for a while now, she's been 'grace' to us.
Middle names are a different story. We'd come up with some, then X some off the list. One day I came up to Stephen and suggested Grace Hannah. He scoffed at it, saying that it was too close to the tween star, 'Hannah Montana'. OK...fine. I wasn't that attached to it anyways.
THEN, almost exactly a week later, he walks into our bedroom saying, "Hey, what do you think about the name Hannah?"
Poor thing...I think I prob gave him one of what he calls, 'Naomi faces' and said, "Are you serious? Do you not remember the conversation we had last week about that name? Does Hannah Montana ring a bell?" HA! I think he remembered at that point, grinned and said, "oh, well, I like it now." oh, well....I guess things change.
Right now we have a few front runners for middle names, but thanks to those great guys we had lunch with, we have more names to...ahem...add to the list.
Here are a few of the suggestions:
Grace Face
Grace Car
Grace Land
Grace Less
Grace Full
Grace Period
Grace Tabernacle Church of God
Grace Works
Grace Balthazar
Grace Ball
and the crowd favorite:
Grace Shus (or Cious)
As you can see, we have many options to choose from. Even if one of these *may* not end up being her name, I know that she will still be called them on multiple occasions. (I'm sorry, Grace....your Uncle Ryan is crazy. Let's just say, I've heard some of the names they named their toys growing up.)
So stay tuned for the 'final draft' of the name. I think we've decided that since we've narrowed it down to just a few, we are going to wait until we actually see our beautiful little girl to decide what her middle name is.
For being someone who waited for 36 weeks already, you'd think that we'd be used to it by now. I think now, its become even more excruciating, because we know our lives are about to change soon...and we can't WAIT!!

Hey Naomi,
It's Tina Huntsman--Mary's friend from church. We left Sumter two years ago, but I check your blog fairly regularly (found a link to it from Mary's site). . . . Anyway, I love the name Grace! And I love her bedroom. And I love how cute you and Stephen already are as parents! Can't wait to "meet" Grace when she arrives!
That's so funny...guys are so fun, aren't they? I love that you've chosen Grace as her first name. I'm excited to see what you choose for her middle name.
I always have names picked out before the ultrasound. I couldn't do it any other way. :)
36 weeks!! How exciting! Can't wait to "meet" Grace and hear what the middle name is
Grace is a great name! Can't wait to hear what her middle name will be! :)
i'm voting for grace tabernacle church of God... although that could make for a super long name tag when she starts kindergarten... your BILs are a hoot!
