I am a Child of God

Ever since Grace was born, I've sung this song to her. The words are so comforting...and so true.
And ever since Grace was born...she has loved it.
You wouldn't think that a baby would have a favorite song, and you probably wouldn't believe me unless you could see how quickly she calms down when this song is sung.
If Grace is struggling to fall asleep, or is sick, or hurt, or just plain cranky, I sing these words:

I am a child of God
And He has sent me here
Has given me an earthly home
with parents kind and dear.

Lead me, guide me,
Walk beside me
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with Him someday.

I am a child of God
and so my needs are great.
Help me to understand His words
Before it grows too late.

Lead me, guide me,
Walk beside me
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with Him someday.

I am a child of God
Rich blessings are in store
If I but learn to do His will
I'll live with him once more.

Lead me, guide me,
Walk beside me
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with Him someday.

Immediately, her countenance changes. She will quiet down in a sort of reverence and look at me with those big blue eyes. She will lay her head against my shoulder and just listen to the words as we rock back and forth.

When I sing those words, I feel the Spirit testify to me that the words are true. I am a child of God. And in those piercing blue eyes, Grace testifies to me that she also knows that she is a child of God.
And there is nothing more important than that truth that I want her to know.
